To do this, you place a supplied measuring microphone where you usually sit when watching television. Setup the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbarįor this to work, the soundbar must first understand how the room is structured. This ultimately ensures that the many loudspeakers in the Sennheiser sound bar use the walls, ceiling, and floor of the room as reflective surfaces, via which sounds are specifically redirected in such a way that the impression is created that one is literally surrounded by loudspeakers. The basis for this is a technology developed by Fraunhofer IIS called “upHear” Immersive Audio Virtualizer. In order to create a three-dimensional sound impression with a single soundbar similar to that produced by such a complex setup, Sennheiser has developed a technology together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (Fraunhofer IIS) with which virtual loudspeakers can be placed in the room.

In order to hear them in full splendor, you normally need ten loudspeakers that are carefully placed in the room.įour of these are on the ceiling, two behind the viewers, two to the left and right of the TV, one below, and a sub-woofer. This means, for example, films with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack for spatial sound effects. The result, the manufacturer promises, makes it possible to experience “5.1.4 home entertainment with a single all-in-one device”.

What this looks like under the fairing is shown in our photo gallery: In addition, full-range loudspeakers are installed on the left and right of the upper side, which emits their sound to the front and upwards. Six bass loudspeakers radiate directly to the front, while of the five smaller tweeters only three radiate to the front, and one each is located on the left and right sides. Seen from the outside, they all look identical, but things look different under the protective fabric cover: Sennheiser has installed a total of 13 loudspeakers in the soundbar. Those who are willing to spend so much money on a soundbar will not only get a lot of weight but also plenty of technology. But it should be at a price of almost 2500 Euro. After all, the 1.25 meter-long loudspeaker weighs in at almost 20 kilos. I carefully whacked Sennheiser’s new Ambeo soundbar out of its box.

Using these drivers, along with an acoustic back volume and dual resonator chambers housed in the IE 600’s nozzles, they have been tuned for a tonally neutral sound. Those components consist of Sennheiser’s TrueResponse transducer, a single 7 mm driver, which the company says is responsible for the IE 600’s virtually distortion-free reproduction of music and extra-wide frequency range.

This provides both protection from damage, as well as precise housing for the IE 600’s internal components. Sennheiser claims the exotic metal, which has been used by NASA on its Mars rovers, offers “triple the hardness and bend resistance of high-performance steel,” making it a very tough material. Made from 3D-printed amorphous zirconium, a metal with a glass-like atomic structure, they possess a very distinctive, beaten-metal look.

The bulk of the event was dedicated to discussing Sennheiser’s new entry into the audiophile market with the IE 600, a $700 set of IEMs that will be available this spring/summer.
